From hit-and-runs to abetting suicide cases, the image of the Hindi film industry has been tarnished for a number of reasons. That image got worse with the recent arrest of singer Daler Mehndi in a human-trafficking case in 2003. This article features all the actors who had to serve prison terms for one reason or another.

Salman Khan

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been convicted by a trial court for killing a man in an SUV after going out for drinks on the night of September 28, 2002. Salman’s Toyota Land Cruiser hits five men. The five slept outside a bakery in Bandera. The verdict was eventually overturned by the Bombay High Court, which acquitted him of all charges.

Soragi Pancholi

Sooraj Pancholi has been charged with abetting suicide over the death of actress Jahan. Jia committed suicide in 2013. Soraghi faces charges from Ja’s mother Rabia. He also had to spend some time in jail.

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay had to serve some time in jail after the Supreme Court sentenced him to five years in prison. He was jailed for his role in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Sanjay was arrested and charged under the Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. He was released from prison on 25 February 2016 after completing his term.

Aryan Khan

Aryan Khan was arrested by NCB (Narcotics Control Board). He was charged under laws relating to “possession, consumption and sale of illegal substances”. He had to spend nearly three weeks in jail. The charges were later dropped for lack of evidence. The case has made headlines several times. A key witness also claimed he was forced to sign blank documents at the NCB office.

Heaney Ahuja

Shiney Ahuja is accused of raping his maid. Following these charges, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. His maid later dropped her statement, but the judge relied on FIR in the case.
