West Hollywood to Co-Sponsor Van Ness Recovery House Movie Fundraiser


At the regular meeting of the West Hollywood City Council on Monday, July 18, 2022, the City Council approved Item 2.S. Agree to co-sponsor Van Ness Recovery House film fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm New York City approves use of Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park, waives facility use Fee and Plummer Park three-hour parking rule (estimated $468 fee waived). The city also authorizes the use of the city name and logo on invitations, programs and other collateral materials for the event. The Department of Communications will utilize all appropriate communications tools to promote the event, including but not limited to the City’s website and social media tools.

Van Ness Rehabilitation Center is the nation’s longest-running rehab center serving the LGBT community. The mission of this nonprofit organization is to meet the critical and expanding needs of the LGBTQIA+ community for alcohol and drug addiction recovery. The Healing Home utilizes Alcoholics Anonymous principles to provide day and inpatient care, sober living, education, prevention, and outreach in a socially supportive and chemical-free environment. Services are available to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay or HIV status.

The Van Ness Healing Home will celebrate 50 years of service through 2023, hosting events to document the history and diversity of the healing community it has served for decades.

On August 20, 2022, Van Ness Rehab will host a film fundraiser at Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The fundraiser is for members of the recovery community. It’s going to be a fun, interactive film, Grease, and tickets are available for just $20. Proceeds from the event will help support the work of the Van Ness Healing Home.

The City of West Hollywood makes addressing substance use services a priority by funding programs for various agencies and by educating the public through community forums, innovative prevention activities, and substance abuse service guides. From 1992 to 2008, the City of New York contracted a variety of rehabilitation services with the Van Ness Recovery House. Hundreds of West Hollywood community members have been served by the agency and continue to access its programs. Van Ness has hosted similar fundraisers at Fiesta Hall in the past, including a screening of the musical Hairspray, a well-attended and successful event. Support for this event is in line with current New York City policies and initiatives.
