Warner Bros. Sees Big Covid Outbreak As Rising Cases Hit Hollywood – Deadline

Los Angeles County’s daily number of new Covid cases topped 8,000 for the first time since January, and Hollywood, like many local industries, was not immune.

Warner Bros. recorded what could be the largest entertainment industry outbreak, with 31 employees listed as infected on the official website of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The studio has seen smaller outbreaks, mostly in the 3-5 case range. In May, its Building 128 had five cases, while Phases 27 and 29 also had five cases.

The second-highest outbreak related to the industry we know of occurred at Lionsgate, also in May, when the studio recorded 21 infections. More than half of them were employees returning from CinemaCon Las Vegas.

Deadline has contacted Warner Bros. and will add any comments we receive.

Other notable outbreak sites include The Walt Disney Company, which is currently listed as having six infections. Fox Sports, which has been on the list many times, now has a total of 10. There were more than a dozen cases in Fox Sports and Fox Sports deportations in May.

Speaking of sports, the Dodgers now have a second pandemic with 10 cases, while Crypto.com Arena has seven infections. By comparison, Crypto.com recorded 61 infections at the peak of the first wave of Omicron in January.

Experts say all official case numbers may be underestimated because of the widespread availability of home testing kits, and test results are rarely reported.
