“Ticket to Bollywood” Initiative Launched to Support Emirati Screenwriters


This week, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced a new initiative to support screenwriters at home and abroad called Bollywood Tickets. Launched by the Dubai Film and Television Commission (DFTC), the initiative is the fruit of decades of UAE-India diplomatic relations and aims to nurture the talents of Emirati screenwriters and support them with some of the best Bollywood studios.

“We are delighted to enrich our relationship through greater cultural and creative engagement,” said Saeed Aljanahi, Director of Operations at DFTC, speaking at the conference. He also went on to explain that the programme will give Emirati screenwriters the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, Also gain valuable experience working with renowned Bollywood writers and directors.

The DFTC is currently accepting applications through its official website. Applicants 18 years and older will be asked to upload their contact information, valid ID and portfolio. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to share a story idea that covers genres such as action, drama or romance.

From TV series to movies, Bollywood offers a wide range of entertainment that is loved around the world, rivaled only by Hollywood, Japanese and Korean media. According to IMDb, some of the highest-grossing films in the UAE include Bollywood hits such as Baahubali 2: Conclusion, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dangal and more.

In fact, working closely with such an established film industry is a great way to learn from experts in the field and an opportunity to exchange ideas and expertise between the UAE and India.

“Bollywood holds a special place in the hearts of locals and expats in the region. For decades, Indian culture, from food and fashion to movies and songs, has interacted with and influenced our own culture,” Aljanahi said. to the film industry in India.
