The Atlanta Braves Send Five to All-Star Game in Hollywood

The Atlanta Braves will send five players to Los Angeles for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball announced today the full roster for the 2022 All-Star Game. The Atlanta Braves will be well represented.

This is an All-Star for the Atlanta Braves.

Ronald Acuna Jr.

We’ve known for a while that Ronald Acuña Jr is an All-Star. As the National League’s leading vote-getter during the first stage of voting, Acuña automatically earned the starting spot.

It shows the Braves national team voting effort as Ronnie has missed a lot of time this season. While he’s playing well since his return, it’s not yet the typical Acuna we know and love.

He is currently hitting .274/.369/.433 with 8 HR, 36 R, 22 RBI, 17 SB, 0.352 wOBA and 125 wRC+. His defense has been solid, but he doesn’t seem entirely comfortable in the outfield less than a year after a knee injury. He has 1.6 bWAR and 1.5 fWAR.

Either way, it was an honor to see Acuna in the All-Star Game. What he didn’t experience in 2021 when he should have gotten it. This is his third All-Star selection.

Max Fried

The Atlanta Braves will send their Ace Max Fried to Hollywood for the All-Star Game.

Freed has had a great year against the Warriors with a 2.52 ERA, 2.81 xERA, 2.50 FIP, 2.94 xFIP, 3.20 SIERA and 1.02 WHIP. That includes a 23.5% strikeout rate and a 4.0% walk rate.

Overall, he is worth 4.3 bWAR and 3.2 fWAR.

We’ve seen Fried turn into a real ace. One that gives the team a chance to win every 5 days. His first All-Star selection was well deserved.

Dansby Swanson

Dansby Swanson’s extraordinary performance in 2022 earned him his first All-Star appearance.

Arguably the Warriors’ MVP at this point in the season, Swanson is 0.302/.357/.491 with 14 HR, 54 R, 50 RBI, 14 SB, 0.368 wOBA and 136 wRC+. After a poor start to the season, Swanson’s offense led the Warriors.

He’s also as reliable as ever on the defensive end, with 2 DRS in 767.1 innings. Swanson did it all year, as evidenced by his 3.4 bWAR and 4.0 fWAR.

Travis De Arno

The veteran guard has really found a home in Atlanta over the past few seasons. After wandering between several teams for a few years, Travis DeArnold landed with the Warriors ahead of the 2020 season and made a name for himself.

The name now includes the 2022 All-Star next to it.

d’Arnaud hit .267/.318/.480 for the Warriors with 11 HR, 34 R, 37 RBI, 0.346 wOBA and 120 wRC+.

He’s also done a fantastic job managing the Warriors’ pitching staff. d’Arnaud also showed that he is a great hitter as he ranks second in all baseball games with 5 catchers for bats.

His 2.2 fWAR shows he’s on track to have the best season of his career.

Travis d’Arnaud was beloved by the Braves national team and was rewarded with an All-Star lineup.

William Contreras

A contender for the biggest surprise of the year, William Contreras will also make his All-Star debut. He will replace the injured Bryce Harper as the starter for the National League DH.

Split time between catcher and DH, Contreras hit .266/.350/.568 with 11 HR, 22 R, 22 RBI, 2 SB, 0.392 wOBA and 152 wRC+. That includes some key moments for the Braves.

His defense even improved when asked to play behind the board. He may not be the best cartographer at this stage of his career, but it’s a welcome step in the right direction.

“Wild Bill” Contreras is offering 1.5 bWAR and 1.4 fWAR this season, which makes the Warriors front office look like a good fit to trust him in the long term.

The Warriors have five All-Star games in 2022. It goes to show how special this club is after winning the World Series.

Suffice to say, players like Austin Riley, Kyle Wright, AJ Minter, and even Spencer Strider can all be considered “snubs” in the game, the level of their game.

Either way, it’s great to see the Warriors have a great run in Hollywood this year.
