Directed by Srijit Mukherji, the film revolves around the life and journey of former Indian women’s cricket captain Mithali Raj. According to news18.com, the film tries to highlight too many issues – women’s empowerment, the shoddy treatment of women cricketers by government agencies, the ignorance of women’s cricket by most Indians, women balancing personal and professional lives The difficulty and, of course, the cries of patriotism that run through the film.

Mithali Raj’s biopic isn’t the first of its kind. Given that Bollywood honors sports personalities and their contributions time and time again, her story is certainly different from others. However, the film highlights how a Bharatnatyam lover also enjoys playing cricket, but in secret.

Azhar revolves around the life of cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, whose career began to decline after being accused of match-fixing. Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi as Mohammad Azharuddin. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

Aamir Khan starrer Dangal is one of the most popular sports biopics. Released in 2016, the film tells the story of the Phogat sisters, played by newcomers Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film was a huge hit at the box office, earning around Rs 2,024. The film explains the sport of wrestling well, while providing a compelling narrative of the father-daughter story.


Diljit Singh starring Soorma revolves around the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh. Sandeep Singh’s story, which came out in 2018, could have been an eye-opener.
