His dazzling stage hallucinations earned him the 2008 Merlin Magician of the Year Award.

Rob Lake was heading to the Hollywood Casino Saturday at the Charles Town Racetrack in West Virginia.

“My magical expertise is Grand Illusion, Large Magic, Large Effect,” Lake told WTO. “This is probably one of the biggest shows ever at a Hollywood casino. It takes a few semi-trucks to get my show around the world.  …some of my favorite fantasies, coming back in person, ready to bring you Amazing magic.”

What types of magic can we expect to see this weekend?

“It made me appear, disappear, levitate, and bring the audience to the stage to engage in magic,” Lake said. “One of my favorite things to do is to recreate the original version of sawing a woman in half. … Over 100 years later, no one knows exactly how it was done. I brought volunteers to the stage… put My assistant is tied up.”

Born in Oklahoma in 1982, Laker’s life changed when he saw magician Kirby Feinberg.

“When I was 10 years old, I saw a magic show and I knew right away that this was what I was going to do with my life,” Lake said. “After that magic show, I went to the public library and got all their magic books. I would make my friends, my parents, my neighbors, my teachers, everyone for magic, coin tricks , crazy with card tricks.”

He started touring in his 20s, performing magic tricks all over the world.

“I was really naive,” Lake said. “I dropped out of college at the age of 20 to do magic full time. Before long, I started traveling the world. My first show was a long-term residency in Japan, and I’ve been working ever since.  … When I was in my 20s, I tried cruises and had a lot of fun.  …I played in over 40 countries around the world.”

At 25, he became the youngest magician ever to win the Merlin Award.

“In the magic industry, Merlins are like Oscars, Grammys or Tonys,” Lake said. “All my magical heroes have won. …I am the youngest wizard in the history of magic, and it is a great honor to be recognized by my peers.”

He has since performed in the White House, starred in the TV series “Master of Illusions” and reached the quarterfinals of “America’s Got Talent” season 13 in 2018.

“I never watched an entire episode,” Lake said. “I was on the show thinking, ‘Okay, we’re going to do a delusion and maybe get a million YouTube views.’ … My first delusion got 70 or 80 million views YouTube views!  …I said, “This is a really big deal with a bigger reach than I thought it would be. “…It was a really exciting performance. It exceeded all my expectations.”

When not touring, Lake is a magic consultant for Broadway and Hollywood.

“In addition to my own hallucinations…I also design hallucinations for TV, movies, Broadway shows, world-famous theme parks, resorts, and even major concerts.  …It’s my love of magic and bringing it to life way to other forms of entertainment. It’s fun.”
