Respectful Gesture or Propaganda? Prince Harry’s Controversial Veterans Day Tribute

On Veterans Day recently, Prince Harry paid a visit to the Pearl Harbor memorial. Along with his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex also made a statement honouring the veterans.

In the course of his recent trip to Hawaii, Prince Harry paid a surpise visit on Veterans Day. According to People, on Friday the Duke of Sussex paid a covert visit to Pearl Harbor in Honolulu. On Veterans Day, Prince Harry honoured US military veterans with a considerate gesture that garnered praise. A statement was also released by Harry and Meghan Markle.

People claim that Harry went to the memorial on a personal trip and that it wasn’t part of his itinerary. He lives in Montecito, California, a short flight from the USS Arizona Memorial on the island of Oahu. The battleship was bombed by Japanese forces in December 1941, which is why Pearl Harbour is a melancholy place and is mentioned in American history textbooks. The attack, which prompted the US to enter World War II, claimed the lives of over 1,100 crew members.

The ‘respectful’ action of Prince Harry

According to People, the Duke of Sussex was “extremely respectful and gracious” throughout his visit, according to Dan Conover, who was also exploring the USS Arizona on Friday with his family. The eyewitness disclosed that “He is royalty, so I got out of the way so he could do what he was doing. He essentially said “hello” to me. He was incredibly polite, considerate, and pleasant. I stepped aside for him, and he gave me a brief pat on the back before saying, “You’re all good mate.” Although it was a brief exchange, he was kind, respectful, and courteous throughout.”

The declaration read, “We pay tribute to servicemen and women from all over the world on this Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. These courageous men and women, along with their families, have given a great deal and are the epitome of duty and service.”

On Remembrance Day, Prince Harry also addressed a touching letter to military kids who had lost their parents, in which he expressed his empathy of their anguish and sadness after having lost a parent himself.
