“We respectfully urge that focus remain on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s life and legacy,” the representative for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stated in a statement.

For the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry will not be wearing his uniform. As Buckingham Palace announced on Monday, September 12, that only working members of the royal family who hold military rank will wear military uniforms for the five major ceremonial events leading up to and including The Queen’s state funeral, King Charles III, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward are expected to be dressed in traditional regalia.

Prince Harry and Prince Andrew, the son of Queen Elizabeth II, are no longer senior royals engaged in official duties, thus they will not be attending the funerals while wearing their uniforms. Despite having lost his military titles and royal patronages in January after being accused of sexual assault in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, Prince Andrew will honor the 96-year-old monarch by donning a uniform for his mother’s funeral. In reaction to the discussion surrounding the funeral clothing, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued a statement.

“Throughout the ceremonies commemorating his grandmother, [Prince Harry] will be dressed in a morning suit. We sincerely request that the spotlight be kept on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II because his decade of military service is not dictated by the uniform he wears “The representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told People.

For those who don’t know, Prince Harry spent ten years in the British Army, twice being sent to Afghanistan. Harry lost his three honorary military titles—Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington, and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command—after he and Meghan Markle left their senior royal positions in March 2022.

Earlier, the military regalia of King Charles III, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward were on display at the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. They will wear the attire once more on September 19 at the procession, prayer service, vigil, and state funeral for their cherished mother at London’s Westminster Abbey. After that, The Queen will be laid to rest in Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel during a Committal Service.
