Casper restaurant owner Alex Rosales did not know the well-groomed blond man. Rosales thinks his customers are just people who like to look extravagant when they eat Mexican food.

But it turns out that the taco regular, YouTuber and makeup mogul and Casper resident Jeffree Star, likes to look his best at all times.

“My daughters had to tell me who he was,” Rosales told the Cowboys State Journal on Wednesday. “Even so, we didn’t treat him differently. We treated him like a regular customer because that’s who he is.”

That was about two years ago.

Fast forward to this week, and Rosales will be adding Star-raised yak meat to some of his restaurant’s dishes.

On Friday, the taco will feature Star Yak Ranch carne desebrada, a shredded meat. Restaurant patrons can try yak desebrada as chimichanga or a plate of shredded pork with queso freso, rice, etc. The restaurant will be introducing more yak meat as a weekend special in the coming weeks.

Rosales was skeptical when he tried yak meat for the first time, but says Star’s product convinced him.

“We didn’t really think about changing the menu because we were very happy with what we had,” Rosales said. “But we had some yak meat for our personal use, and it was really tasty. It tasted good, but it wasn’t as greasy as beef either.”

A few weeks after Rosales tried yak meat, Star walked into the restaurant to ask about his yak ranch’s partnership with taco, which has been in Casper for 22 years.

Rosales said he and his team are open to trying new things, creating new dishes with exotic meats.

He also said that Star seemed willing to seek out the restaurant and ask them to form a partnership, rather than the other way around, showing the high quality of the food that Tacos Mexico has to offer.

“It was flattering because he told us that he had been to a lot of places and that he really liked what we did,” Rosales said. “We’re in Casper, Wyoming, making people recognize what you’re doing, and he’s totally into it.”

Star started selling yak meat earlier this year. He opened pop-up stores in the Casper area, where people can buy a variety of meats and beef jerky.

Rosales said the duration of the partnership will depend on the yak meat that Star supplies to restaurants, but he expects the partnership with Star will bring customers from Wyoming and other parts of the United States.

The restaurant has been featured on Star’s YouTube channel and other social media platforms, boosting their popularity.

“He’s one of those perfectionists who goes from presentation to publicity,” Rosales said. “We’re all stepping up to give our customers something better than average.”

Star did not respond to Cowboys State Journal’s request for comment Wednesday.
