Neighbor‘ Alan Fletcher worked as Ramsay Street doctor Karl Kennedy for nearly 30 years, building a huge fan base – including some celebrity admirers – during that time.

The Australian soap opera will end on July 29 after 37 years on the screen, and Fletcher shared his favourite moments of meeting the show’s celebrity fans.

Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell makes a surprise visit Neighbor Set in 2007, before a concert with his heavy metal band in Melbourne.

Fletcher said of the meeting with the Welsh musician: “Probably my favourite musician and the fan interaction between musicians. Neighbor It’s Phil Campbell from Motorhead.

“Phil is a good partner, he loves NeighborSo, when he came to Australia to tour, he asked if he could come to the studio.

“He was at one of Tony’s weddings as an extra. I’m not sure if he ever aired, but he was with us all day.

“Then we all rushed to the Motorhead show that night and met Lemmy backstage, which was amazing. Phil has been a steadfast friend of mine who has been in constant contact with since then.

“He went on stage to shred his guitar, played heavy metal, and then came out and showed his love for music. Neighbor. This has been a wonderful, wonderful dichotomy! “

Fletcher added that he has found fans of the soap around the world — including on a trip to Iceland where he found the show has a loyal following.

He said of visiting the country: “I had a great time there. I remember walking into a remote gas station once and it was cold. Of course, it was very icy and dark.

“We bought ourselves a hot dog and chips, sat at the table and looked up Neighbor on TV. “

The Neighbors airs its finale on Channel 5 at 9pm on July 29 as Double Bill.
