He later took his stage name LQ Jones from the role he played in 1955.

Gulf Coast Museum executive curator Tom Neal has fond memories of Jones during the actor’s return to the area.

Neal recalled that Jones had served as a parade marshal. The parade car drove about three blocks, then suddenly, the vehicle stopped on a side road.

“They started circling and telling the band to keep going. He got out of the car and started shaking hands with the crowd. He was that kind of guy,” Neal said. “He’s important in life. He’ll hug you and stay with you. LQ is just a prince of a man. The best man you’ve ever met and worked with.”

A few years ago, Neal made a “This Is Your Life” type video with Dr. Sam Monroe, president of the Port Arthur Historical Society, focusing on Jones. Monroe interviewed the actor as Neil made the video.
