Janvi Kapoor In a new interview, she admits that she was told to follow certain instructions to be successful in the industry, but believes she would be lying to herself if she followed those guidelines. Janhvi said she was told to be more budget-conscious and to focus on her public image.
In an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, she said that while such instructions might work for some actors, if she followed them, she felt “wrong.” During her recent appearance on Koffee with Karan, host Karan Johar suggested that the entire stage where Janhvi could only be seen wearing salwar kameez in public was authorized by someone.
When asked if computing is an important stepping stone to the success of the film industry, Janhvi said: “I have been told that computing is necessary, maintaining a certain image is necessary. Like, ‘Don’t be seen like this, don’t be so easy to be seen. People see, cater to the image, focus on PR, put a little more about work on social media so you don’t look like you’re just doing yoga and partying and eating.” But when I’m on set, I think about the set, the job, the location, so how am I going to shoot? “
She continued: “Obviously every actor has to strike a certain balance. They told me to be more committed to the promotion…I can’t, I really can’t…It’s not bad advice, it works for some people. But It’s not me, so even if I try to do it, it doesn’t feel right.”
Recently, in She appeared on Koffee with Karan Along with Sara Ali Khan, Karan Johar praised her for becoming more fashionable, even calling her a “sex symbol”. He asked her why she used to dress so plainly. She dodged the question, saying it was just the mental space she was in at the time, and Karan asked if she had been instructed to dress a certain way. She said: “I love how I look. I love shiny clothes. Life is too short. I just want to have fun, I just want to be who I am, whatever that means, I don’t even know.”
Janhvi will next appear in Good Luck Jerry, a crime comedy set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on July 29.
