Via the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page: The Carnival on Saturday, July 16th and Sunday, July 17th has been canceled due to an accident in our parking lot on Friday night.

At about 11 p.m. Friday, as the carnival ended, there was a shooting in the upper parking lot of the fire station as guests left. Both were found with gunshot wounds and were immediately treated by fire and emergency medical services at the scene. Both patients were transported to the hospital, one by MSP air and the other by Hollywood EMS ground transport.

The incident is an ongoing investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. If you have any information or questions about this event, please contact the St. Mary County Sheriff’s Office at 301-475-8008.

For generations, our annual carnival has been a part of our fire department and a major event in the Hollywood community. Members of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Brigade take great pride in the tradition of the annual Mardi Gras. We strive to provide a home-based safe environment for all citizens to enjoy themselves. The department looks forward to the annual carnival for several reasons, most notably as a means of bringing the community together and as a major source of funding for our largest fundraiser.

The incident on Friday night affected members of our community and our HVFD members and their families who were attending Carnival at the time of the incident.

Our sympathies go out to the entire community affected by this tragedy. All media inquiries can be directed to the St. Mary County Sheriff’s Office of Public Information.

Additional information about the Hollywood VFD Carnival will be released soon.

Respect,

Hollywood Volunteer Fire Brigade
