Hefty Price Tag for Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 Unfair to Producers?

Pushpa 2’s production house has struck a profit sharing deal with Mythri Movie Makers that hasn’t been profitable for them. Check out the details

Allu Arjun‘s Pushpa: The Rise found success both at the box office in India and around the world. This large-budget film was budgeted at Rs 170-200 crores. To date, the film has grossed between Rs 355 crore and Rs 365 crore worldwide. All parties involved in Pushpa 2 will benefit from the film. Production will begin in August. Known for his lavish lifestyle, Allu Arjun and filmmaker Sukumar earn huge amounts of money. As per the latest report in Telugu360, the financial breakdown of the film looks heavily skewed in favour of Allu Arjun, and the makers Mythri Movie Makers are not left with much even if the second part is a hit. You can read the details here.

In a report from Telugu360, Allu Arjun is quoted as being paid Rs 175 crores as his fee for Pushpa: The Rule. On top of this, film director Sukumar will receive Rs 75 crores for the second installment of the action movie. As a result, the actor and producer have been charged Rs 200 crores each. The production house apparently had no choice but to relent as the first movie was a blockbuster.

Estimates place the movie’s budget around 150 crores, a large portion of which goes to production and promotion. The estimation for Pushpa: The Rule’s budget is more than Rs 35o crores according to this estimate. Shooting at a rapid pace so as to prevent inefficiencies and needless expenditure, it seems Sukumar has said. Mythri Movie Makers have also been instructed not to disclose non-theatrical deals, according to the article. And it is not difficult to predict the sentiment of Allu Aravind, who is the father of Allu Arjun, towards the eventual release of OTT deals.

The report further states that Allu Arjun and Sukumar have signed a contract where they will receive 40 percent of the film’s profits if it is a blockbuster. In this case, Mythri Movie Makers will get something in the range of 20 percent of the profits if the movie succeeds. Since the film is made on a small budget and doesn’t have blockbuster expectations like say a big, big film, there won’t be a big loss if it fails at the box office. However, if it’s a huge flop, it will be difficult for the production house.

Rashmika Mandanna will reprise her role as Srivalli in the film. The summer release is expected in 2023.
