Despite being a well-known actress, she’s been stereotyped as ‘cheap’, ‘sub-par’, ‘just a sex object’, and that sort of thing. The Dobaaraa actress has repelled trolls not only with her intelligent responses, but also with her acting abilities.
Taapsee has been labelled as ‘sasti’, ‘B-grade’, ‘Mard ki body’
Some say If you’re taking the bouquets, you’ll have to take the brickbats but Taapsee Pannu seems to be on the receiving end of brickbats far more than bouquets from people like National Award-winning actor Kangana Ranaut or internet trolls. Though she is an established actress, Taapsee has been labelled as ‘sasti’, ‘B-grade’, ‘Mard ki body’ and what not. However, the Teh Doobaaraa actress has shunned the trolls not so much with her smart replies but more with her acting abilities.
The protagonist’s path, from the margins to being accepted in Bollywood, has not been an easy one. But it has also given her an added reward – both good, as in taste, and sweet, as in meaning. Taapsee has always been curious, so she has a ‘never say never’ attitude that led her to explore different things in her career. This led her to become a strong opinionated person.
She first got involved in the fashion industry when she was in college and entered the 2008 Femina Miss India pageant when she was only 20 years old. The time she spent in the military didn’t give her enough recognition, but she decided to try her hand at acting and it turned out to be a game-changer for her. Once she became popular in South India, she made her debut in Bollywood films with David Dhawan‘s Chashme Badoor. The film received negative reviews but proved to be successful at the box office.
She gained recognition for her performances in Shoojit Sircar’s courtroom drama Pink. Following that, she has made daring choices like Naam Shabana and Judwaa 2 which helped put her name on many directors’ lists.
Taapsee Pannu might not have been a trained actor or someone who acted before entering films. But watching her play strong women, who beats up terrorists in a salwar kameez, talk about virginity, sex, and consent without sugarcoating the content, made people want to stand up and clap for her in approval. The actress is currently working with Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani on their upcoming film Dunki. No matter if you try to bring her down, call her names, disagree with her, love her, or hate her, you just can’t ignore her. The birthday girl is here to stay and goes a long way.
