Ford Ends Production of $500,000 GT Supercar with Special Edition

The Ford Motor Company will produce its last edition of the Ford GT supercar in honor of the vehicle’s racing heritage at the cost of half a million dollars per car.

Ford on Wednesday announced that the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition would be the last model of the third-generation car, resurrected in 2016 after a decade away.

According to the company, only 20 GT LM Edition cars will be produced with delivery set to start this fall and production finishing up at the end of the year.

Since we announced the Ford GT LM Edition earlier this month, we’ve received an overwhelming amount of interest in our track-going supercar, Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, said in a release.

The GT is steeped in racing history, making it an ideal collector’s car. This GT LM Edition pays tribute to both the GT LM’s overall victory at the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours and Ford’s impressive podium finish to beat Ferrari in 1966 at the famous French race.

During the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the current-generation GT was revealed as a surprise. Despite Ford’s deepest efforts to keep the car a secret, it was only allowed to be worked on by select employees and executives in a nondescript basement room near its Dearborn headquarters.

Multimatic Inc. of Markham, Ontario, was the only Canadian manufacturer of the third-generation GTs, powered by twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engines with 660 horsepower and 216 mph top speed.

A Ford spokesperson declined to comment on whether there will be a fourth-generation GT. Additionally, the spokesperson did not comment on the price of the latest limited edition GT model, but said the pricing starts at $500,000.
