Daniel Cormier Takes on Hollywood in Upcoming TV Show Based on ‘Warrior’


UFC Hall of Famer and former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has set his sights on Hollywood for the next chapter in his life. “DC” will star in the series based on the 2011 film “Warrior.”

“I came from Lafayette, Louisiana, under the (bright) lights of the Octagon, and now I’m going to challenge Hollywood! I made fun of it a while ago, but now thanks to @paramountplus and @lionsgate, it’s a reality I am so honored and excited for the next chapter of my life!” Cormier tweeted.

The series will be based on the late 2011 film Warriors, starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte. The video introduction is as follows:

“An estranged family finds redemption in the most unlikely place: the MMA ring. Tommy (Tom Hardy), a former Marine with a tragic past, returns home and invites his father (Nick Noel) T), a recovering alcoholic and former wrestling coach, trains him for “Spartan,” the biggest MMA tournament of all time. But when Tommy’s underdog brother Brendan (Joel Edgerton) struggling to make it to the tournament, the two brothers must finally face each other and the forces that separate them.”

The film was recognized as a great sports drama, and Nick Nolte earned Oscar and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his gripping performances as the father of two main characters and the struggling alcoholic.

According to Deadline, original film director Gavin O’Connor will also direct the ten-episode series for Lionsgate, with Paramount+ developing it.

One of the fighters will be played by Cormier, O’Connor told Deadline. With his wife dying of cancer, the character not only becomes a single father, but he also takes on a huge debt for all the medical treatment his wife took to save her.

Cormier (22-3-1 MMA, 11-3-1 UFC) withdrew from the sport after a decision loss in a title bout with Stipe Miocic at UFC 252 in August 2020, completing their The legendary trilogy. Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson in the third round of UFC 187 in 2015 for the vacant lightweight title. Cormier clinched the double by knocking out Miocic in the opening round and winning the heavyweight title in the process. UFC 226 in mid-2018.
