If you’re an avid makeup user, you might think the ‘no makeup’ look is impossible to achieve without using your arsenal of cosmetics. But with these five tricks, getting the ‘no makeup’ look has never been easier. Not only will you save time and money by not having to buy cosmetics, but also you’ll be healthier overall, since most of the products women use daily are filled with harmful chemicals that can lead to many issues down the road, including cancer. Here are five hacks to achieving the ‘no makeup’ look in no time at all!

1) Exfoliate Beforehand

Exfoliate before you get started. This will help exfoliate your skin, which can make it feel less oily throughout the day and give you a more even look. Plus, it’ll help make sure your makeup doesn’t cling to dry patches of skin. Two good choices are a gentle facial scrub or baking soda mixed with water in your hands. Baking soda is great because it’s natural and very cheap but I find that there are fewer grains in facial scrubs so they feel smoother on my skin, leaving less chances for irritation if any ingredients happen to aggravate your skin sensitivity.

Use Oil-Free Moisturizer: Using an oil-free moisturizer will help keep you from getting shiny throughout the day. Even if you don’t feel oily right after washing your face, a moisturizer will slow down how quickly your skin oils work to make you shiny. I personally like products that come in pump bottles because they’re easy to use while I’m in a rush and they tend to be less messy than squeeze tubes. If it’s too late for you, grab some powder and blot areas that are more shiny than others with a tissue before applying your makeup.

2) Master Contouring

Do you have trouble mastering contouring? It can be a tricky technique and there is an art to getting it just right. Here are five hacks for achieving the ‘no makeup’ look without spending a ton of time on it.
Stick with a matte complexion by using powder instead of foundation or tinted moisturizer. It will look natural, not cakey, as long as you use a setting powder too.

Instead of using a bronzer as an all-over color, blend it into specific areas on your face. This gives you more control over how much you apply. Keep in mind that if you’re going for a sun-kissed glow, then dust some highlighter under your cheekbones, bridge of nose and chin. You can also sweep some blush across the apples of your cheeks for that pop of color.

3) Use an Eye Primer

We all want that fresh faced look, but sometimes our morning beauty routine is a little more involved than it needs to be. Here are five hacks for achieving the no makeup look. Primer, primer, primer! Start with a primer and wait for it to set before applying your other makeup products. Putting on your base and then waiting patiently for five minutes before starting eye makeup may seem like an extra step, but this will make eyeshadow last all day without creasing or moving. Foundation creates a barrier between skin and anything applied over it so layering foundation beneath eye shadow will keep it in place as well.

4) Know What Products Go Where

To achieve a no makeup look, it’s important to know where products go. Some of your products will create an even skin tone while others will help you change up your appearance with shading and highlighting. When applying these products, keep in mind that more product doesn’t always equate to a better look.

Foundation helps create an even skin tone by evening out skin tone and making flaws less noticeable. Concealer hides any small discolorations or marks, like a blemish or pimple. It also can help define your eyes if you’re into that look. Powder is used to set your makeup so it lasts longer, as well as provide a matte finish and reduce shine on oily areas of your face like around your nose and forehead.

5) Use Yellow-Based Products

Keep in mind that what is considered no makeup and how you want your skin to look will be a personal preference. Choose products that suit your needs. For example, if you want your skin to appear smoother, choose yellow-based foundations, blushes and bronzer. On the other hand, for a brighter complexion and glowing appearance, choose pink-based foundation. Applying highlighter on different areas of your face (forehead, cheekbones) is another way to add color without applying blush or bronzer.
You can also use tinted moisturizers and foundations that have a little bit of coverage. Blush, bronzer, highlighter and lipstick can help you achieve that natural look without looking too made up.
