Paranormal Starter Kit

Supernatural is our top choice for cleaning solutions. It’s expensive to start with, but you can find it discounted a few times a year. The kit gives you four large glass bottles and four concentrates, each for cleaning a different space: windows and mirrors, counters and granite, bathrooms and tiles, wood and floors. Wired writer Louryn Strampe says these blends smell great, like fresh botanicals, rather than the chemical artificial scents typically found in cleaning products. When you’re done, you can keep the glass bottle and order refills. Already have a kit?Subscriptions are currently 25% off for first-time code customers SUB25.

You’ll need to buy at least three rags to get the 15% discount, but we think they’re already great value at $7 each. Three Bluebird wipes are biodegradable, made from cellulose and cotton, and won’t stink or mold. They also have some cute prints. They should last about 200 washes on the top rack of a washing machine or dishwasher.

Hoover PowerDash

The Hoover PowerDash is often discounted at this price, but I love using it when my cat is turning my house into a hairball disaster. It also briefly dropped to $60 on Amazon, but the price has recovered. The compact part of the name isn’t an exaggeration; it feels similar to a toy vacuum in the best possible way. And it’s easy to move around furniture and even steps. The handle’s trigger lets you spray the solution precisely before vacuuming.

The SmartWash usually drops to $270—we saw it drop to $185 on Prime Day, which includes a storage pad. But it’s still important. This carpet cleaner is bigger and more powerful than the PowerDash above. In automatic mode, pushing it forward will release the cleaning solution, and pulling it back will start drying the area. You can also turn on drying mode continuously if more channels are required. The handle of this cleaner can be removed for stain treatment, as well as a hose and pet tool for cleaning stairs.

rug doctor

The previous two carpet cleaners were made for smaller jobs, and their sizes and prices reflect that. When your house is full of carpets that need professional-grade cleaning, you’re going to have to pay a professional price. WIRED contributor Simon Hill says Carpet Doctor’s results are the best he’s ever seen, as long as you walk slowly and the suction is strong enough to pick up clumps and leave the carpet relatively dry. If you don’t think you’ll be using it more than once, or simply don’t have the space to store it, consider renting it for $35.

To clean hard floors, Shark’s Steam Mop uses steam to remove stubborn stains. No cleaning agent required. It works especially well on tile and laminate, but WIRED contributor Simon Hill says be careful if you use it on wood. Test on the lowest heat setting first. You get two cleaning pads, and they’re machine washable, so there’s less waste than Swiffer.

Air Purifier Deals

Your air should be clean too! A group of WIRED Gear writers have been using air purifiers in our pet-filled home to find the best option for your budget and size.

Blueair Pure 411 car

Unfortunately, air purifiers are an expensive category. This is one of the most affordable purifiers you can find, especially at this price. And very quiet. In a 190-square-foot room, it can purify the air in 13 minutes.

I love the Bissell Air320. My cat allergies are out of control and the nights are especially hard. Bringing it into my bedroom has finally made it easier for me to breathe and sleep. Its little wooden feet also look cool. It circulates air 4.8 times per hour in a 327-square-foot room, or once per hour in a 1,582-square-foot room. There is also an app to control it.All Bissell purchases help find a forever home for homeless pets through the Bissell Pet Foundation

Blueair Pure Fan Auto

Most of the purifiers on our favorites list have very good designs, so they don’t look ugly in the middle of your living room. It’s just gorgeous. It circulates air five times an hour in a 326-square-foot room, and also adds cool air, though it’s not powerful enough to completely cool a stuffy room. Night mode turns the fan to the lowest setting and turns off the air quality light.

The Airmega 150 is best for small rooms as it is rated to clean up to 214 square feet. It’s quiet, and the touch controls are intuitive, as are the colored lights that indicate air quality. There is also a light that will come on when the HEPA filter needs to be replaced.
